The Sea Dogs are back in town and they’re cold

The Portland Sea Dogs are back in town after spring training in Florida and, as usual, it’s cold up here in Maine. Today was media day. It’s when the media (like me) go and pick up their credentials and chat with the players and coaches for a few minutes. Today’s high temperature was just a few clicks above freezing. Plus, the wind was whipping over the outfield. So, we did our talking inside. One of the main topics of conversation was the weather.

This year, the Dogs’ opening day roster includes six players ranked among the Red Sox top 30 prospects, according to Baseball America. They are:

– Infielder Wendell Rijo (#15)
– Pitcher Ty Buttrey (#18)
– Pitcher Williams Jerez (#19)
– Pitcher Teddy Stankiewicz (#20)
– Pitcher Kevin McAvoy (#21)
– Pitcher Luis Ysla (#25)

The Sea Dogs open the 2016 season in Reading, PA, against the Reading Fightin’ Phils on Thursday. The home opener at Hadlock Field is a week later on Thursday April 14th at 6:00 p.m. against the Hartford Yard Goats.
