This is day one of 12 posts looking back the pictures and video I shot for the BDN this year. Today’s theme is: This is Maine.
I’ve spent months traveling and going to school overseas. I’ve gone on short tours, playing music, all over the east coast, going as far away as Nebraska. But Maine is the only place I’ve ever called home. I love it here and there’s nowhere I’d rather be. The best part of being a newspaper photojournalist is having a great excuse to get out and meet my fellow Mainers, to see their lives unfold in real time.
Here’s 13 photos Maine its people, as I saw it this year.

This year, the school joined the districtís back-to-school program, providing backpacks, school supplies, vision screening, haircuts, and other necessities for its pre-kindergarten to fifth-graders. That doesn’t happen just anywhere. Troy R. Bennett | BDN
6/20/15 — A boy runs under a rainbow flag that stretched several blocks of the Pride Portland parade route on High Street in Portland. The parade and festival in Deering Oaks Park capped off a ten-day celebration of Maine’s LGBTQIA community. It was, hands down, the best parade I’ve ever seen in person. They joy brough tears to my eyes. Troy R. Bennett | BDN
09/05/15 — Brody Sevey, 4, waves a flag atop his father John’s shoulders at the Great State of Maine Airshow in Brunswick where the Blue Angels performed for a crowd of thousands. I have to amid I don’t care much for war planes. For me, the pictures are all on the ground. Troy R. Bennett | BDN
